Founder

Compassion. Service. Diligence.

Our firm was established on these principles, founded by the late Pat C. Fragile. His son, Matthew B. Fragile, continues his father’s tradition of service to our community, compassion for our clients and dedication to the pursuit of justice.

About our founder:

Pat C. Fragile graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Master of Science Degree and a Doctorate of Jurisprudence Degree. Fragile practiced law for nearly 40 years and became a distinguished member of his community through his service to others and involvement in local and regional sports. He was a pilot in the US Air Force for five years and served 23 years in the Air National Guard. He began private practice in Beckley, West Virginia in May of 1977. During his decades of practice, Mr. Fragile represented clients in automobile accidents, wrongful death and a broad spectrum of civil litigation matters, including but not limited to: contract disputes, estate litigation, divorce, custody, paternity and adoption. Mr. Fragile successfully litigated cases resulting in seven-figure judgements.

Mr. Fragile served on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Association of Justice, as a member of the American Association of Justice, American Bar Association, Raleigh County Bar Association and President of the Raleigh County Bar Association.

Matthew Fragile

Managing Attorney

Matthew Fragile has been practicing law for over 21 years in West Virginia. Matthew is a graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing with an education certificate. Upon graduating from James Madison University, Matthew taught at Lord Botetourt High School in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. While teaching at Lord Botetourt, Matthew decided to further his education and enrolled at the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia.

Upon his graduation from law school, Matthew took a position with the West Virginia Supreme Court as the Law Clerk for the Honorable John A. Hutchinson, Circuit Court Judge of Raleigh County. At the end of his two-year contract as a law clerk, Matthew entered into private practice with his father, Pat C. Fragile, and his wife, Stacey L. Fragile, at the Fragile Law Firm.

During his many years of practice, Matthew has represented numerous clients in a time of their life where they have needed a litigator who is compassionate and able to guide them through emotional matters such as divorce, paternity, custody, guardianship, and in matters where clients have been accused of abusing and/or neglecting their children. Additionally, Matthew has litigated very complex matters including natural gas explosions cases, mass litigation matters before the West Virginia Mass Litigation Panel, and class actions suits where safety of the citizens of this great state was sacrificed for the bottom line.

When Matthew is not protecting the civil liberties of this great state, he is volunteering his time as a West Virginia High School baseball official. Matthew combines his love for the game of baseball and his professional love for the fair applicaiton of the rules to enable the area youth a fair and enjoyable experience on the baseball diamond. Matthew was selected as the 2016 NFHS State High School Baseball Umpire of the year.
